Personal Finance Software - What's Your Favorite Software For Planning & Budgeting Your Personal Finances? I'm looking at Quicken 2008, Moneydance and others but keen on knowing your own choices that might have more features or just be a stronger complement.

Programs or excel software for newlywed budget planning? I am getting married soon and am the ultimate budget cruncher. I currently keep track of my spending, My fiance is great, but I know I'm better about pulling the "purse strings" than he is (though he is not a floozy spender at all). I have been using excel and making up my own tracker as I go, but it's not really functional as far as budget keeping. What programs are user friendly especially when it comes to keeping track of different categories (mortgage, groceries, incoming bills, student loan payments, etc)?

How to find Open Office Budget software? I am trying to find free software to help with planning my budget. I saw on the Answers that Open Office has something good that can be used. I went on the open office website, and installed their package. Now I have Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math and Writer. None of it is Money or Budget, or finance. What software and equipment is best to start off with for editing films and animation? My goal is to become a movie director and/or animator. I have used Pinnacle Studios 9.0 for some time, editing scenes that I captured on my old Sony Handycam Vision. Personal Financial Software? I live with my girlfriend and we would like to find some software to help us track our expenses, budget and plan for the future. Our accounts are separate from each other but we would like to be able to track our bills, budget, etc as a whole and separately. I have been trying to setup with Quicken 2009 and it doesn't handle it too well. It tends to want to continuously group us together. I'd prefer to find something either cheep or free. Whats a good video editing software compatible with vista? I've studied how the software works now I need to think of a idea for a sample demo material like my own template of sample budget forecast. Do you think this will fix the problem? Sorry for such a lengthy post!!!! So… Some background… My girlfriend and I have been living together for over a year now. We have a combined checking/savings account. She maintains a lot of this herself; however, I am building software so that we both can keep track of our finances. Though our budget is tight, I have to say that she is very good about money in the sense that she doesn’t miss payments, and we are financially stable. On the flip side my girlfriend has done a few things behind my back… About 3 months she lied to me about purchasing something from a department store. The short version is, that day, I specifically asked her if she had purchased anything and she said ‘no’. Not that I would have challenged her if she did anyhow. I come to find out that she had indeed spent money on various items. We had a discussion about it. I didn’t yell or anything. I tried to understand why she felt the need to hide her spending. She has this fixed idea that I would get mad or upset over her buying things. In reality as long as she can justify the purchase, and we can afford it, I have never challenged her on a purchase. She did apologize for lying, and I have not pushed the subject since then. Ok… So now on to the meat and potatoes… We had discussed what we wanted to do for Christmas as far as budget and such. We followed a family budget plan, and agreed that we would find something and purchase a gift to the both of us. Instead, my gf decided to purchase a Wii as a surprise, and gave it to me early. We did discuss that we wanted a gaming system, but did not discuss what type. I am happy with the Wii no less, but wished we would have talked about it together instead… She spent about $600.00 for the wii + games. WAY expensive, and WAY more than we originally had planned on. So I let it slide, didn’t make any mention of it what so ever, and kindly accepted it. Meanwhile, she purchased SOOO much more stuff, and put it under the tree addressed to me. I had no idea she was going to do this. Again, I talk to her about how we will afford what she purchased. She does have everything covered in her budget, but we could surely sink this money into credit debt. I mean I purchased things for her as well, but nothing quite as substantial in price (I also gave her a ballpark of how much I was planning to spend as well). I just felt like there was a HUGE communication gap in our expenses for the holiday season. Anyhow, I was reviewing our credit cards, and noticed that she had purchased items, and had them sent to a friend’s house so she could pick them up without me knowing. These items were purchased for her specifically. In addition, she spent another $600.00 on clothing for both of us. I know, you are looking at this and saying one of two things (you’re a control freak or geez she spends WAY too much money haha). Honestly, I have two pre-requisites for purchasing as far as I’m concerned and they are: Can you justify it, and can we afford it. I have been battling with how I would talk to her about the purchases she made beyond my knowledge. So today I took the plunge and was strait forward with her. I told her that I was aware of her purchasing items and shipping them to a friend’s house. I also told her I thought we spent WAY too much for the holiday season. I asked her again why she felt the need to hide things from me, and she said that she feels I get ‘frustrated’ about spending money. My response was, does that make it right to hide it from me? She agreed that it was wrong. I told her that I don’t want to have to worry about this going forward. She seemed to receive our conversation well, and agreed that she shouldn’t have done it. Do you think I handled this the right way? Should I have done something different? Am I the problem here? What should I do if she does this again? I don’t like pinning consequences on someone so I don’t want to tell her the whole ‘STRIKE THREE YOU’RE OUT!’ you know… I just wonder if this is a permanent fix or if she will revert to doing the same ol’ thing. Need open-source or cheap pension fund administration software for medium size business? We have a definied contribution pension plan at my medium-size company. The contibutions are being added to a fund. Then employees can take loans from the fund. It hasn't been administered well, or seperately, and now I'm trying to clean things up. Im thinking of making an independent film with volunteer actors and almost no budget, or like 1000.00 max? with friends and whoever wants to help out in various locations in my hometown Elmira, NY. I'm basically doing mostly improv based ideas and am just going to make an outline for a script. Best software/screen resolution for an independent animation? I've been storyboarding an idea for a short animation (3-5 minutes) and I'm wondering where to go next. I was planning to animate on tracing paper, scan it, superimpose the individual frames on a Photoshop-generated background and flatten the image, but I'm not sure which video editing software would support some 5000 clips at a frame rate of 12 fps. I also don't know how big I should make the .jpeg files, or even what pixel size would be necessary. I actually disagree with your premise. Sure there is lots of planning that goes into products, but there are also schedules and budgets (and customers pounding on the table for their SW you promised them)! These things generally lead to SW being released before it is actually ready. Some companies don't even bother to thoroughly test and actually rely on their customers to find their coding errors! In those cases, it's far better to wait until the 1.2 or 1.3 version before buying SW (operating systems are often like this). It is also true though, that the same effort may not go into a maintenance version of code that went into the 1.0 version. People often fool themselves into believing that they don't need to re validate the whole system because they "only changed on little thing" (only to find out that one little thing governs the behavior of a lot of other little things..)." Can anyone give me good reasons of why not to purchase a Sony HVR-A1 Camcorder for filming shortfilms? Whats best, Nas or server for home media network? I was looking for a Nas within my planned budget (3 to 4 hundred dollars) to do the following: - File sharing between 3 pcs using vista and xp. - Good performance. - Stream high def media content to TVs using Asus Oplay or WD Live Tv receivers. - Stream (and if possible transcode) high def media content to PS3. - Stream music to Logitech squeezebox duet. - Torrent manage and web/ftp access would be a nice plus, but not 100% necessary I found no nas in the market that fit both my needs and budget. In terms of features, the netgear readynas duo came close, but very poor transfer performance. In terms of performance, the buffalo linkstation pro ls-xhl came best, but not compatible with squeezebox or ps3 media server for media transcoding. So i found a possible solution. A home server using an MSI WIND NETTOP PC. With an atom dual core processor, 2 gb ram, and 1 tb hd, it costs less than 300 dollars. Ad 100 dollars more for 2 Tb. The only thing is I dont know anything about home servers or diy nases. Would a home server be the best or only choice for me here? Can i install any software in a home server? Sprint Users: Which one is better, Blackberry Curve or Palm Centro? Hello, This question is actually for my wife. She currently has the Katana from 2 years ago & is looking to organize a little. She would like a phone that she can easily budget ,organize & plan the payment of bills. She was leaning towards the centro, as it is cute and simple. She is probably not going to use the internet that much, but if she does, she likes that the centro only costs $15 a month, compared to the $30 that it would cost for a blackberry. However, the Centro hasn't had the best reviews compared to the blackberry. And they are both the same price right now. So here are some of her questions: 1. Is there a way to avoid the $30 data fee for the blackberry? & only pay $15? 2. Does the centro really reboot randomly, and freeze up often? (I think that would get really irritating) 3. How is the speaker phone on either the blackberry or centro? 4.Which phone has better built in applications & software? I have built a Recruitment Consultancy website but now need a CMS - how on earth do I do that? I am an experienced Recruitment Consultant who has decided to team up with a bunch of colleagues to go it on our own and start up our own Recruitment Consultancy. Now none of us are naturally gifted when it comes to html and computery stuff however we have managed to create our first draft of the website using Wix.com and I must admit that it is really starting to look quite snazzy. The problem is that we now need to develop a CMS that will make updating the site with our latest jobs and blogs nice and easy. We also want to be able to provide a system where candidates can supply their information (including CV) through the website directly on to our candidate database software. We are planning to use a piece of software called RDB Pro that will act as a database for all our candidates and clients. So we have the website and we have the database software but how on earth do we get/create a cms that can integrate with both and also let us upload and manage our web content easily. I know that in business one of the greatest hurdles to overcome is getting a system where the user can focus entirely on the stuff that generates the sales and doesnt have to muck about with all the technical mumbo jumbo and that is why I am so keen to get this bit right! We have not allowed anything in the budget for this so it will have to be something that is "home cooked". I dont mind spending a lot of time getting things right at this point as I feel it will be beneficial in he long term so am happy to spend hours mucking about learning how it can be done but would be gratefull if someone could point me in the right direction. I am planing to buy a Macbook with(online from Canada apple store): 2.13Ghz Intel Core Duo 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm Apple Remote and the Protection Plan for Macs Does the macbook come with a software pre-installed? Or should I purchase a software with the Macbook? I am new to Macintosh, so I have no idea what else needs to be purchased with the Macbook. I need some help finding the correct graphic design software/freeware.? I am looking to create posters/prints/flyer's for music, sports, etc. To be eventually printing on docu-color printer most likely via .pdf format. For example like a 28" x 12" small concert poster. Which processor is better for laptops - AMD Turion X2 or Intel Pentium duo core? I am planning to buy a laptop and based on my budget and requirements have zeroed upon the models Compaq presario V3149AU and Hp pavilion DV8814TU. Both are same in config to a good extent except the processors. Compaq has a AMD Turion 64 X2 while HP has Intel duo core processor, The speeds for both are 1.6 Ghz. Now I am a graphics artist and will mainly be using softwares such as 3d max, photoshop etc. And I am looking at a laptop that will assist me to some extent during travels. I personally love AMD and am using AMD machines in my office. But how about in laptops - Is the AMD Turion processor better or good enough as the Intel Duo core. Sales negotiation - how to best handle this type of question? I have been evaluating a variety of VERY expensive software solutions for our company. I got a voicemail from one of the sales reps that says "I wanted to get an idea of the pricing that you were looking to get". To me, this is a weak, lazy way to work with a potential client. If they have a product that they have sold to ANYONE in the past, they should attempt to "coach" me (the client) through the process of the pricing structure.
